English 102 Final
Coming into this English 102 class I was a little on edge, I have heard from many friends that in 102 there is a lot of writing and essays that you do over the semester. I was surprised when we went over the course objectives and through the first two weeks I was feeling much better about this class.
I have learned a lot about academic writing throughout this semester and I have learned much more than any other English class that I have taken before. I have learned the most and the most helpful information has been the researching and citations. Even in high school I have not learned much about either until this class. I believe that the information that I have learned in this class will stay with me and help me out through everything else while going to school.
Writing the research paper I was going into thinking that it would be another horrible experience and writing at the last minute to get in finished, but again I was shocked! It was nice having so much class time to write and do the research during class. I found it very helpful that we could ask any question and could ask in class unlike most times where I would have been at home and waiting for an email. It was also very helpful with all the books and resources that you gave us during class and really made writing the paper so much easier. I wish all teachers would do it this way but that would be too much to ask for.
The short one paragraph essays were extremely helpful too; it really made you think about what to say since we were limited how many words. I enjoyed writing them and found it to be challenging for myself which is good for a person every now and then. I wish that more teachers would do the essays like those because students would be challenging themselves, and over time it is going to make us better writers.
The use of so much technology was a lot of fun, but then became frustrating at the same time. I enjoyed using the twitter because I usually won’t speak up and say what I want to say so that made it nice that we could all talk about a topic and everyone could participate at once. On the other side I can see where it might be a good thing to make students talk out loud and become comfortable with speaking and their class mates. I also really enjoyed blogger I thought it was a really cool way of keeping track of your assignments. Again it did get confusing when we would have to do all the different things with the assignments but it was challenging and taught me that it might take time but it is good to learn new things. I would have to say my favorite project was the video. I use to make videos like the one we had to do in class when I was younger and loved being creative and making a master piece. I never knew how many cool things you could do with it though, like the talking and being able to make different music. I liked how we were able to make the topic anything we wanted and now I have learned a lot more about my grandparents and their lives out in Sparta. For me personally the movie came at a perfect time in my life. It was only a few weeks earlier that I thought Gator was not going to make it, he ended up getting really sick and lost a bunch of weight. He pulled through whatever he was sick with and now is eating and being his grumpy old self again. So being able to make this video and finding all the old pictures of me and him was very special to me and made me realize how many good memories I have with him. I will keep this video forever and I will have it to look back on when he is no longer here with me.
Things that maybe would have enhanced the class was maybe not so much of the online stuff. It is a good thing to being able to talk in front of the class and learn that public speaking is not so rough. Even though I loved how we had so much time and were going step by step on the research paper, I don’t think it is the best to take things in baby steps because it is not how college works and many teachers just expect it to get done and they are not helpful like you are.
Overall this class was a lot of fun, and I did learn a lot about all sorts of different things with writing and using all of the new websites and different ways of communicating. I can only hope that my English classes from now on would be like this class and this much fun, but I am not going to hold my breath for that to happen. Hopefully all the things that I have learned will stick with me through the rest of my schooling and I can remember all the little things that make writing so much easier.

A Case of Assisted Suicide
No one deserves to suffer in pain, and the people around him or her do not deserve to suffer either. Kervorkian understood this, which no one deserves to suffer. When someone is sick and suffering it is not only that person who feels the pain, everyone is affected they realize that the person who is sick is not the same person who they once were. “After all it is one’s mental status that determines the essence of one’s existence” (page 318). If someone wants to end their life they will not get any better and Kervorkian said it best in the quote. Years ago we fought for our freedom and succeeded. We have the freedom to have a assisted suicide. “Suddenly-for the first time that cold, dank day-warm sunshine bathed the park” (page 323).
Eighner
Scavenging through dumpsters, picking through leftovers from restaurants does not sound appealing but for Eighner a dumpster can be a five star restaurants. Through the story Eighner takes us through his vivid menus that he is able to choose from. “While it lasted I had a steady supply of fresh, some-times warm pizza.” (Pg 256). Eighner had varieties of food at his fingertips, but knowing what was good and bad was the key to Eighner’s success. “ Yogurt, cheese, and sour cream are items that are often thrown out while they are still good” (pg 257). While Eighner had to be choosy and cautious about what he choose off his menus he had the choice of what to eat at his disposal. Eighner was able to eat breakfast, lunch and dinner but also was able to get deserts when his sweet tooth was in-need of some sugar. Through the worst of times Eighner taught that you still have choices and are exposed to fine dinning.

One Paragraph Essay
Harrison Bergeron
Like so many people in our world today, Harrison Bergeron gave up his life for freedom. In today’s world, we take for granted such freedoms that people like Harrison Bergeron fought for. Reading this story makes one realize how awful a place it would be to live in. Not being able to express yourself, show your talents, and think would almost be like not even being human. “Every twenty seconds or so, the transmitter would send out some sharp noise to keep people like George from taking unfair advantage of their brains.” (294) Just imagine not being able to think for longer than twenty seconds, it’s one thing that we take for granted every second while were awake. With our freedom gone to do the things we want and to be the people who we are, life would be boring. “And then, in an explosion of joy and grace, into the air they sprang!” (298) without freedom we would lack joy, and grace in our lives.

“A Film Unfinished”
Watching the movie A Film Unfinished it reminded me how lucky we are to live in a Nation with laws and freedom. It reminded me how thankful we all should be and how we take for granted the little things in life that make a world of a difference. There is no way that I could have lived back then and no way I could have went through what those innocent people went through all because someone did not like them. Watching the film makes you see things that you have only been told about for so long when going through school. Seeing the people who were starving to death and seeing the kids more so than the adults hit me hard, how people could be so mean and have no compassion for the people suffering. It was shocking that people who were looking for Hitler at the time amazed me with how they wanted to try to show how good the people and kids had it in the Ghetto when really there was no way the people were living any kind of life. Seeing how many people were confined to one area and to see how many people were living on the streets and to see the how when someone dies their family just leaves them on the street when they have passed away. The film helped show what the people really lived like before they were sent to the camps to die, which helps to make connections with what we all have heard for years in school.
Watching the film I am sure took us all back and made all of us realize how lucky we are to live in a country that we live in. With all the freedom that we have we all take for granted what freedoms we have. Living back then I could not imagine going through what those people had to go through, I could not imagine starving to death and living in such confined spaces. We are all so lucky to live in the United States and every now and then we need to be reminded how lucky we are.

1.When it came to caronated soft drinks Eighner would see if they would still fizz vigorously. Third guideline was when Eighner was colleting small objects he would restrict himself to collecting one kind of small objects at a time, so that he would have enough room if he came up on something he would need later on.
2.Eighner enjoyed raw fruits and veggies, hard candy, pizza, yougart, cheese and canned foods. Eighner did not enjoy things like eggs, chicken, and home leftovers he opposed.

Intro
My name is Cortney Hazelrigg, I am 21 years old and was born and raised here in Springfield. I went to High School at Kickapoo and during high school I swam all four years. While swimming at Kickapoo I was on the State team all four years, and was the teams backstroker for our medley relay all four years as well. As you can see swimming was a huge part of my life. I began swimming at the age of 8 and swam competitively all the way up until I graduated high school. When I was not swimming growing up you could find me at my grandma's house riding horses. I have been riding horses since I was only a couple months old. My horse is half missuori fox trotter and half qaurter horse, his name is Gator and he turned twenty seven this past June.
I have been here at OTC for two years now and hopefully this spring I will transfer to MSU to study elementary education. Ever since I was a little girl I dreamed of becoming a first or second grade teacher.
